Our ELO system is called the Grade system. The higher grade you have, the better you are as a player. However, the higher you climb, the harder it becomes.
What is the GLL Grade system?
For every fifth grade you gain or lose, you will receive a new badge, up to grade 20 where you get the legendary badge. Getting grade 20 is very difficult, and only something a few of the best players in the world will be able to achieve. With having the rating system active for one year, the highest rated player, GLL Season 4 winner Vard from WTSG, had a grade of 19.
There is no cap on the system, meaning that in theory you can climb forever, but like mentioned above, it becomes very difficult the higher rating you have.
Why are we implementing this, and what is an ELO rating system?
The main reason behind our new system is simple, we want it to be as fair as possible.
ELO is a system that has been used in traditional sports and esports quite some time and when we looked into ways to improve our previous static system we knew that this is the route we wanted to take. Over the years, ELO has been one of the fairest systems to define an individual player’s skill.
The ELO & Rating system is dynamic which means that the amount of rating you get is based on your placement, kills, your previous rating, and the skill of the opponents you face.
The main flaw with a static system is it’s not individually tailored to a player’s skill, and when you have less than the designed amount of teams and players it is very unfair as it’s easier to gain rating.

I already have a rating, how come?
The actual ELO system was actually implemented almost a year ago (May 2019), although hidden. All players from that time and onwards who have played on GLL already has an active and accurate rating.
When launching the system (March 2020), we now have over one year of amazing data on our players to ensure the best ELO system out there. For example, did you know that the top 5 players on GLL based on our ELO system are from team WTSG who also won GLL season 4 in 2020; The tournament featuring the best players in the world?
Meaning, thanks to having waited this long, we now have one of the best and most accurate ELO systems out there!
Will my rating be used for matchmaking today?
As of today, No. Who you will play against on GLL will not be influenced by your rating.
However, in the future we are planning to introduce this for matchmaking queue (the play button) as well as implementing rating specific tournaments.
However, how much rating you will gain or lose WILL be influenced by everyone else's rating in your game. If you have a lower average rating then everyone else in your lobby/game, you will lose less and gain more points depending on your performance. Likewise, if your rating is much higher than everyone else’s in your game, you will win less or potentially lose more.
We are an esports organisation and we want to achieve the highest level of competition on our platform. The ELO system has great potential to be extended to various tournaments on our platform and be the defining factor of a player’s individual skill level for a specific game. For example, it would allow us to host qualifiers to tournaments with players of only a certain skill level or create a varied prize pool for different groups of players.
Will there be a reset, or defined seasons?
This is currently under evaluation and development. We can’t say for sure that this will or will not come in the future.
How many games do I need to play to get a grade?
You need to play 5 games to get a grade.
How do I know how much is left until my next grade?
By hovering over your grade, you will see how many grade points are left to grade up. For every 100 grade points, you will get a new grade. You can also hover on other player’s grade to see how much is left for them to grade up.
You can also see if you are gaining or losing rating, based on your last 5 games. If the Arrow is up and Green, you are doing great and gaining rating, if it is Red, you are unfortunately losing rating based on your 5 last games.
Where can I find the leaderboard?
A GLL Leaderboard is coming very soon. However, whenever you sign up for a tournament or matchmaking, you will see everyone elses rating so you will always know where you stand in the game you are about to play.
We will also do our best to post regular updates of the top 5 rating leaderboards until the leaderboard has been implemented.
What matters in the system?
Whether you gain or lose rating changes, depending on what your rating is when you are starting a game. We count both kills and placement in the game you play. Based on the results (kills and placement) you will lose or gain rating.
What if I have feedback?
The task we set with making this system as fair and competitive as possible is very complex. We cannot achieve that without your opinions and feedback. We want to thank everyone who has given us feedback and used this system, which has helped us massively! You can use any social media, like Twitter, Discord, VK to give us your feedback.
